Christmas 2015

Merry Christmas!

It's that time of year for a little update.

Nick is finishing up his last year of residency for Pediatric Dentistry in Rochester, NY. His little patients seem to love him and he's doing fantastic work. We are all in awe of him and his mastery of the profession he's chosen. He's serving in scouts and is also teaching in Elders Quorum. He and Emily are looking forward to "real life" with anticipation and fear.

Emily is busy as a stay-at-home mom. She is mastering League of Legends and also teaching in Relief Society. This year she started running and has been loving it. In May, she and the 3 older boys had fun "running" in the Color Run. She loves doing laundry, dishes and especially cleaning toilets!

Cooper (13) is serving as president of the Deacon's Quorum. He made High Honor Roll at his middle school and is active in Boy Scouts. Cooper is on his 7th year of piano and 3rd piano teacher. He's 13. He knows everything.

Sean (12) also made honor roll and is loving boy scouts! His active imagination and curiosity keep us busy answering (or dodging) his constant questions. He LOVES to practice the piano.

Mason (9) is also enjoying being a cub scout. His giving, loving nature makes him a joy to have around. He's a bit goofy, but chooses his friends wisely and surrounds himself with goodness. He has chosen to play the viola, and we have been impressed by his fast progression.

Rand (3) is sweet and obsessed with electronics. We've had to cut him off, but he will jump at the chance to play Minecraft with his "bro bros" or steal a family member's phone.

Briallen (2) is all noise and all girl. She never lets us forget that she's around. She's adamant about getting her way (we're working on that). Briallen potty trained herself a few weeks before she turned 2 because she knew mom couldn't handle it. She loves Peppa Pig, her dolly and minions.

We have made such wonderful friends in Rochester and it will be difficult to leave in the summer. We live under the abundant blanket of blessings that have been raining down and have a first-hand view of the Lord's hand in our lives. May we all focus on the good the He brings as we celebrate His birth. Hugs to all!

Letchworth State Park in the Fall

I had the opportunity to hike with the Boy Scouts at Letchworth State Park today.

It was so beautiful! The hike was muddy slippery fun.

Isn't this place AMAZING? I'm so happy that we got to experience this before we leave this place of 4 seasons.....

Tinker Nature Park

This little nature trail is really close to us and is so fun for little ones, big ones, young ones and old ones. It's so beautiful any time of year and the fairy houses are a special treat.

Today, Columbus Day, we decided to take advantage of the 70+ weather and go for a nature hike.

The hidden Fairy houses are my favorite part!

The fall colors are so fun!

Peter Whitmer Farm

Visitor's Center/Chapel at the Peter Whitmer farm.

We had the opportunity to visit the Peter Whitmer Farm, which is a bigger part of Mormon history that I originally thought. In this tiny little home, the gold plates where translated. Our guide told us that the little girls sleeping in the room next door, would fall asleep to the sound of the prophet, Joseph Smith's voice, translating the Book of Mormon.

Downstairs in the kitchen, we learned that the FIRST sacrament meeting was held, only 50 members where there. It's a wonderful thing how the church has spread so abundantly and quickly in the nearly 200 yrs since this first meeting. I felt a peace at this spot that was serene and testified of truths to me. It kinda caught me off-guard. The sun was setting behind the log home, the geese were honking as they make their migration south and the fall colors and crisp air just made me feel all happy inside. Like, there couldn't be a better spot for the birth of Christ's church to be born. Highly recommend!

The visitors center was awesome too, by the way. The kids loved the games and we even watched a movie. The visitor center holds a time capsule that is scheduled to be opened on the 200 yr anniversary of that first meeting.

Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen is this amazingly beautiful place. We happen to hit the most crowded day in the history of the place (at least it felt like that). There was about twice when I found myself kind of alone, a split second where is could hear the wind and the birds and feel the crisp autumn air kiss my cheeks.... and for those moments I'm grateful.

We descended the 832 steps and then I raced these two ambitious boys back to the top. I'm so grateful that my body is healthy and allows me to keep up with these energetic kids of  mine!

U Pick Grapes

I love it when my husband humors me and makes one of those unscheduled stops. When we drive by and I see a "u-pick" sign for .35 cents per pound and I lightly punch him in the arm and he actually turns around!!

How can we NOT stop and pick 16.6 lbs of grapes. Oh delicious, sweet candy grapes....
