A Mission Statement of Sorts

On contemplating a new blog name, I wanted to come up with something that no only defined what I wanted to accomplish in the blogging world but also summed up what I want to accomplish as a mother. My feelings on this topic stem a lot from this day which I already blogged about. I will attempt to delve a little deeper.

I am a mother. But I'm also a daughter of a Heavenly Father who loves me. He also must trust me so very much to give me 4 boys to raise up in this world of falling morals. I find it difficult to find great examples of men these days in the media. We are presented with Homer Simpsons and beer-drinking and girl-gawking men in TV commercials. We laugh and think it's funny. But it's sad how much of it is true. Give me a man that isn't afraid to do projects with his kids, admit that he loves God more than anything else, take his wife on a walk and hold her hand or a man that sacrifices the video game controller to help a neighbor in need.

On thinking about this, I thought about the mothers in the Book of Mormon who raised the 2000 stripling warriors (see above link for the story). I wanted to encompass my personal mission, as a mom, to raise men of this caliber. A large and lofty goal, I know, but why not aim high? I know that my days are pretty much the same; laundry, kitchen duties, chauffeur, breaking up fights, changing diapers, and so on. But, why not remember what the ultimate prize is? I will only have these kids within my grasp for so long. I feel like everyday they are gradually being released to the wolves. It's my responsibility that they don't becom the timid sheep that follows blindly and gets eaten, but that they become the sheepdogs per se. I know, terrible analogy, but I'm too lazy to think of something better. I want them to never be ashamed of who and what they are and who they want to be. And so forth.

So there you have my thoughts behind the new blog name. Now I will never have to change it again, until my boys are grown and gone out of the house. Then I suppose even then I wont have to change it :)

It's getting warmer....

So I, mom, headed out and took the 4 boys on a walk yesterday. I doubt we'll be doing that again anytime soon. It's not really good exercise when you have to stop every twenty feet for a variety of reasons. So from our house a little less than an mile is Mori Point.

The trail to the tip of Mori Point.

Looking North

Looking South

This is by far one of my favorite spots to go and just sit and love on life.
BTW: There is a weather warning for us for the weekend. It's possible that it might reach over 80 degrees! Seriously, don't believe me check weather.com

I wanted to get a photo of the little valley that we live in. So from the top of Mori Point looking back is a nice view of this valley. Can you see our house? lol  (I just noticed that you can see Sean in this photo. Can you find him?)

Pinewood Derby 2012

Do you know how many Pinewood Derby cars we will have to make in our lifetime? Yeah, let's not go there.

Last year was our FIRST Derby and even though I didn't want to go, I ended up having fun. This year I was looking forward to it and it was so fun! Especially here in the Bay Area where it just about the boys having a good time :) Even though it did feel good to take first place last year.

Sean took 4th place with this battleship car called "The Bismarck." He also won some award for like "Most Radical Car" or something like that.... I can't remember.

Cooper took 2nd place with his car, "Eagle." Cooper's car also won the "Most Spirited Car" award. I should claim that one.... I painted it.

It was exciting that our pack won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!!  Good job boys!!

And what's a blog post without a cute picture of a future derby winner? He was lovin' all the commotion!

One more year until the next derby.....

6 weeks old with a cold

I can hardly believe that he's 6 weeks old! Our little Rand has his first cold so he's a bit demanding these days.

His favorite things are:
  • the pacifier
  • eating
  • clean diapers
  • baths in the kitchen sink
  • Yo Gabba Gabba
  • his animal friends on his play gym
  • talking with mom and dad
  • smiling for his brothers
  • hypnotizing people with his cuteness

Mom's favorite things about Rand are:
  • his elf ears
  • smiles in the morning while everyone else is still sleeping
  • his earnestness to communicate with smiles and coos
  • his soft little head
  • cuddling

really, I've come up with a name for the blog. I have yet to get a photo of the 4 boys together!
and since Julie, Becky and Liz (and their mom) are the only ones who read my blog, I'm sure you'll forgive me!!
