Welcome Home! Love, the FOG

On our drive back from Northern California we were welcomed back to the bay with a healthy dose of fog. Dad wanted pictures badly... so we pulled off and took a few.... here's a taste of what we saw. Pictures dont do it justice, neither does my uber-amature video. Watching it roll and change forms is AWESOME!

This is Dad's Dental school.... right below the tower.

2011 Family Summer Fun - Hangin' on the Ranch

So the whole reason we went up to Humboldt county was NO, not to grow some weed, but to take care of the llama ranch! Oh boy, the kids had a blast... I'll let the photos speak for themselves.... you can match....
  • fishing
  • swimming
  • boating
  • picking blackberries
  • feeding the llamas
  • taking care of the donkeys
  • the TREE house
  • the garden
  • the fog
did I mention they had satellite TV? that made dad pretty darned happy :)

2011 Family Summer Fun - Sea Glass Beach

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

So if you EVER find yourself close to Fort Bragg, CA, which is totally out of the way and NOT close to anything major, you cant skip Sea Glass Beach! Anyone who's visited us and hung at the beach, knows that we love sea glass. At this place, you would just pick up a handful of rocks and it would be 50-70% glass. Over 100 years ago they began using this beach as a dump site. In 1967 the dump was shut down. So there is some old "garbage" hanging around and it's not entirely pleasant. But I actually thought it was interesting seeing old rusty engines under the water encrusted with shells, glass and rocks.

2011 Family Summer Fun - Shelter Cove

We took a day and headed over to the coast to Shelter Cove. It's this charming little beach town. We had fun checking out the tide pools and playing on the rocks. Sean caught a crab and Mason loved popping seaweed balls.

We had some killer fish 'n chips. Hung with the pelicans and seagulls. Then headed over to Black Sands Beach. There, the boys climbed rocks and played in sea caves. There were peals of laughter coming from Cooper as he let the water rush in and scare him out. They had a GREAT time!

2011 Family Summer Fun #1

You know you're so excited to hear about our family fun. So here it goes. I'll do it in segments as to not overload myself or anyone else.

We went to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. It was AMAZING! Anyone who's been to the redwoods doesn't need me to tell them how FREAKING huge these things are.

noteworthy events:

  • sean got bit by a random bug when we stopped for lunch by the river.
  • cooper wasn't feeling well the whole trip and was a little whiney
  • we saw the "travel log"  i  must say, it was pretty cool
  • we saw the former "tallest tree in the world" it fell in 1998. very cool
  • we saw lots of poison oak
  • we got lost a little bit, but it's was so beautiful just driving around, it didn't really matter.

and coit tower. i really wanted to see the famous parrots of telegraph hill. we looked for some, but never found any :( probably went to the wrong spots....

and yes, the boys need some serious haircuts. although maybe we should go for the 70s look?

we have just a few more weeks until school starts!! YIKES! i'm not sure we're ready for early mornings. we have some fun planned until then so stay tuned!
