Family Vacation-Summer '09

Upon quitting his job at UPS, he had some vacation time to use. Life was crazy with Nick studying for and taking the DAT, applications and job changes. We felt the need for a little respite, so we headed up to Grandma Gibbons' cabin at the spur of the moment. We hung with Grandma and spent a day at Yellowstone. We had a blast! The kids complained because Yellowstone "smells like rotten eggs!" But they had fun playing on the 80 acres. Cooper whittled with his knife, they played "Lord of the Rings" in the brush, waded in the creek and rode 4 wheelers.

Dental school Interview Sample Questions.....

So in preparing for dental school interviews, we've been compiling sample questions from various places. I guess you have to do some deep thinking before heading into these interviews... here are some of my favorites out of the hundreds we've found.... (keep in mind, these are real interview questions!)
  • What do you think of Jack Kevorkian?
  • If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
  • Describe a typical day from your elementary school days.
  • Do you think this whole process is bullshit?
  • If you could be any type of cell in the human body, which type of cell would you choose and why?
  • What would your best friend say to convince me to admit you to our school?
  • What was the last movie you saw? What did you think about it?
  • You are granted any three wishes by a genie. What would your wishes be?
  • If you could invite any 6 people to dinner, who would they be and why?
  • Have you ever written or sent a letter to a political representative in which you have expressed your views on a subject?
  • Do you like to be alone? What do you think about when you're alone?
  • How would you express your concern for a child who needs a painful procedure?

Interim Insanity

i feel guilty as i work throughout the day. the boys are so cooped up during this "fall interim" of 2 weeks with no school, literally climbing the walls. on the days that guilt gets the better of me, we amble over to the park while they are permitted to release their craziness and have a ball.

we took a bath in the fall colors, felt the breeze as it sprinkled leaves on our heads, i realized that this little jaunt to the park isn't just what the boys needed, but an unexpected respite for mom as well.

I'm free to be three and make a mean cookie!

today, it's MY turn to make treats!

mom and dad say i'm too young to bake, well i showed THEM!

mom said candy bars were too complicated.

dad said that it's too cold for root beer floats (again)

so i'm making pumpkin cookies.

recipe (simple enough for me):

1 spice cake mix (just the mix!)
1 can pumpkin
chocolate chips

mix and bake and bake at 350 for 10 min.

my family is going to be so impressed!

conference day #2

once again, we went to the farm for the second day of conference. many friends and family were there. we had fun hanging out, and playing in between sessions.

thoughts on conference:

my favorite talk:
Jeffrey R. Holland! AMAZING talk, my heart was pricked over and over again. Elder Holland has an innate ability to state things bluntly and tactfully. It's not available online yet, but i WILL be listening and reading it again! (I highly recommend going to lds.org and listening, it was sunday PM session.)my favorite moment:
probably staying up 'til 5am talking with family. nick has a wonderful family and i appreciate moments to grow closer to them!

what I need to improve upon:
my impressions of this conference can probably be summed up in one word: DILIGENCE
as I strive everyday to be better, as a mom and wife mostly, there is a constant pressing need for me to be a reliable source of strength for my family. especially in a spiritual way. i don't want to be a passive Christian! i want everyone to know that I know He lives! and i will strive to show this more in my everyday interactions with friends, acquaintances and mostly my family.

why i love conference time:
really? do you have to ask? well, I remember thinking as a youngster how awesome it would be to attend general conference in person. to sit at the feet of a living prophet of God and hear his words. i have, since that day, had the opportunity a few times to attend conference, and although it's supercool to be in that HUGE crowd while singing the hymns and to just feel the general oneness that is present, i LOVE to be at home and witness that same sweet sensation fill my living room with the opening hymn, looking into the faces of my little ones as they feel the warmth and love of our prophet and apostles, and allow them to see the tears stream down my cheeks as i raise my hand to sustain our leaders, i mean really, how can you not love truth, goodness, upliftment and peace?

Conference with kids???

Conference activities are a great idea, but they were sick of them after the first session.... so for the second session we got out the lego's and built "lego temples."

Sean decided that since we didn't have a Moroni lego, he would put a parrot on the top.

LOVE conference !!!

love, LOVE IT!
