Attempt to Snowboard again....

After a few years of haggling from Nick I finally agreed to go snowboarding with him. I had been before a few times before we even met, but I had fallen and broken my tailbone just one week before Nick was to cross my path. We had a good day. I was really suprised how quickly it came back to me. It was really cold and I had to stop around 3:00 pm to thaw out my feet (I did not wear appropriate socks and learned my lesson!!!). Afterwards we caught a movie.

PlayStation 3

Nick and I decided to try and make some money. We camped out in front of ShopKo for 2 nights to be the first 2 people in line to buy PlayStation 3s. Although it was a memorable experience, I would NEVER do it again. Someone called the police on us because we had the kids with us one night for about 1/2 hour. It was pretty cold, but when we explained to the officer that Grandma was here with the kids and we weren't keeping them with us all night, he understood and stuck around to chat for a while. Some kid offered me $600 for my spot in line. I should have taken it because after everthing we made less than $50. You LIVE and LEARN!

Halloween 06

Even though I'm retexturing and painting our walls, I found time to "do" halloween. Cooper is Harry Potter, Sean is an "army guy" and Mason a bee.

The day itself was a FLOP. We headed to Nick's best friend, Luke's home to trick-or-treat with his kids. Nick and I took the three boys in tow and by the 3rd house Cooper says, "I don't feel well," just sits down and refuses to move. Since this is not normal behavior for him, I took him back to Luke's house and promptly fed him some chicken noodle soup (made by Luke's wife, Laura). He began to feel better. A few minutes later, Nick comes back with Sean and says, "Sean said that he's too tired." So while we're getting some food into both boys, Mason decides to see what stairs are all about. We heard a prolonged thumping sound followed by a frightened little cry. We rounded the corner and Mason was sitting dazed at the bottom of Luke and Laura's basement stairs. Don't freak out, he was completely fine. He now proceeds cautiously when he sees stairs. We then proceeded to return to our home. We'd given up on the evening. After washing up the kids and getting their jammies on. Sean decides to see if he can shove a whole peppermint disc down his throat. Long story short, he gags, and proceeds to barf up everything that he'd eaten in the past 4 hours. Finally, we got the kids to bed and I stayed up late getting the walls ready to prime.

Hike to Donut Falls

Today we ventured with the boys to Donut Falls. It's a 1.5 mile hike that is fairly easy. They had such a great time!

Sean was totally obsessed with this ant hill. He calls ants his "friends."

At the top there is a really steep waterfall with a donut hole shape in the middle. We didn't really get a good picture of it. We had a great day and the kids went to bed without a fuss! I should write a book called "101 Ways for a Fast and Easy Bedtime" and just fill it with exhausting activities for kids. Works like a charm! ;)

Hike to Dog Lake

We decided to take the kids hiking one last time for the summer. We left the HOT Salt Lake Valley and proceded up to Brighton Ski Resort (where the trailhead is) only to be greeted by some chilly weather. We weren't quite prepared for the biting air, but we set off anyway. What a beautiful hike! I had no idea that the Wasatch Mountains held such treasured views! The boys had been to a primary activity where their faces had been painted like animals. Nick was the lucky "face artist" called upon by the primary president.
On the hike in we met up with a little girl with her dad that had fallen and she had blood running down her leg into her shoe. I gave them some items from our first aid kit and wished them the best. The hills were rocky and steep so we watched our footsteps a little closer after that.

Arrival at Dog Lake. We ate our lunches in the peace and serenity. We saw many small critters and enjoyed ourselves before making our decent.

Great Grandpa Jack's Funeral

Nick and Cooper's namesake, John Gibbons, passed away this week. We were able to travel to Idaho for the funeral. The service was very peaceful. Some of the grandchildren sang, "How Great Thou Art." They spoke of how he was inherently good and an animal charmer. Nick was a pall bearer with all of his male cousins. Since Jack was in the Navy he was given a soldiers farewell. It was a beautiful service! It made me want to join the military just so that I could have such a beautiful farewell.
Mason stared scooting this weekend. I was able to catch up with an old friend from high school/college that lives in Idaho. So, minus the sadness of the funeral, it was a great trip.

Cooper's Birthday 06

Today we celebrated Cooper's Birthday by going to the Dinosaur Park in Ogden. Cooper's favorite thing to do there is to dig for Dinosaur bones in the big outdoor sand pit.

Lots of Cooper's friends came (Cheyenne and Don Thorsen (neighbors), Austin (my friend, Teresa's little boy), Jamison Chamberlin (from the ward) and Wynn (cousin).

Piano Arrival

My aunt Nancy sent me an email one day asking if I wanted her piano. My first reaction was "okay, dont get your hopes up, it probably wont actually happen." But it did! And our home is now blessed with the wonderful music of a piano. Not that I play too well, but I try!! I cant even begin to thank my Aunt and her family for this wonderful gift!
